Team Acid is a Gemstone research team from the class of 2021 at the University of Maryland, College Park. Our team members are dedicated to improving the livelihood of highly functioning autistic individuals as well as advancing the medicinal applications of traditionally recreational drugs. Kayla Foster - Library Liaison
Kayla is from Bowie, MD and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Science. She is excited to learn more about ASD, and the potential medicinal purposes of LSD. Kayla is a volunteer at Children’s National Medical Center, an Undergraduate Learning Assistant for BSCI160, a Maryland LEAD conference facilitator, and an employee at University Recreation & Wellness. She enjoys reading, playing soccer, and hanging out with friends. Kayla hopes to obtain a medical degree as well as a graduate degree in public health. |
Abby Hansen - Mentor Liaison
Abby is a Criminal Justice/Criminology and Spanish double major from Palos Heights, IL. Abby is excited to see the work that Team ACID is able to achieve. She is on the mock trial team at the University and serves as the treasurer for Best Buddies. Abby enjoys hanging out with friends, exploring D.C., and attending Maryland sports games. She hopes to attend law school and one day serve as a defense attorney. |
Alan Mohammed - Financial Liaison
Alan is a Cell Biology & Genetics and Chemistry dual degree from Baltimore, MD. He is also a volunteer at Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore. He enjoys soccer, guitar, and history/politics. Through the team’s research, Alan hopes to learn more about psychopharmacology and the metabolic pathways of serotonin agonists, such as psychedelic substances. Alan’s post-undergraduate goal is to attend medical school. |
Caroline Olson - Research Member
Caroline is a Bioengineering major from Eldersburg, MD. Outside of Gemstone, she is a member of the Mighty Sound of Maryland marching band, basketball pep band, and Alpha Omega Epsilon. She is also the marketing chair for the Flexus Women in Engineering program. Through this research, Caroline hopes to learn more about how hallucinogens affect social behavior. Caroline’s future goals include attending graduate school. |
Lucas Pascale - Social Outreach
Luke is a Physics major from Ellicott City, MD. Outside of Gemstone, he plays ultimate Frisbee, soccer, and interns in a laboratory on campus. Luke enjoys traveling whenever he gets the chance. After Gemstone, Luke will attend graduate school for physics. Luke joined Team Acid to explore the potential medical and therapeutic applications of psychedelics. |
